I joined Dimensions when I was five months pregnant. Generally, this is when the company starts thinking about your replacement either because soon you will be going on maternity leave or you have decided to take a break from work, which can be temporary or permanent.
The fact is if a woman wishes to embrace motherhood and give her 100%, she has to sacrifice her career, her ambitions, and dreams, either for a few years or for life.
Today I am a mother of a seven-month baby and continuing with Dimensions.
Yes, I took leave for two months so that my body could get the required rest, and I got accustomed to my new responsibility, my sweet little child. Soon after, I was back to work and continued raising my kid.
I chose both- my child and my career!
This is women empowerment; when I get to choose both motherhood and my career.
Women empowerment is not about screaming for the right to wear what I want, where to and when to go, the right to smoke or drink, reservations, etc. Believe me, if you are a woman with ambition and dreams, these things are petty, and you need no permission to live your life as you want.
It is a time when women of all ages must understand the practical world, where for living a good life, for being recognized, you need to work and earn. Work equally, earn equally and climb the ladder of success equally. But at the same time, you do not have to sacrifice family and relationships, which happens because, as a woman, you are expected and pressured to put your family and child before your career. The work field pressures you to clear your priorities. If not, you are asked to leave or settle down.
Nobody understands that it is just a matter of time; a child will not remain a child forever. With time, the child will grow, but industries too will develop. So if a woman takes a break, do you understand where she would stand in the industry? She will be left far behind, and when she restarts, it will be a beginning from scratch. So, if a mother wishes to be a mother without sacrificing her career, why not support her?
Hence, for me, empowerment is when my boss says, “Hey, girl, I understand you are a new mother. And I am proud of you as you are trying to balance both work and your infant.”
