Kota Factory is one of the finest web series ever made in the history of the Indian entertainment industry. In a country where Romantic movies spread like a pandemic, Kota Factory is made for the countless IIT aspirants. Students in India are barely represented in the Indian cinema. So, Kota Factory season 1 by TVF seems like a breath of fresh air.

On a cursory level, Kota Factory might seem like a web series on IIT preparation. But on a deeper level, it is the story of friendship, love, fun and raw emotion. The above line occurs in the first episode of Kota Factory Season 1. It sets the tone of the series.
Once you are in an unfamiliar city with no familiar friends to fall back on, the first thing that you’ll feel is loneliness. However, luckily for Vaibhav, Meena becomes his best friend on his journey to IIT. It’s implied from the very beginning that Meena is that friend who will stay by your side through thick and thin. With such a friend in your life, you won’t need rum or cannabis to fill your life. “Wo zindagi bhi zindagi hai kya jisme na yaar hai?”

Daant Nahi Raha Hoon, Jaga Raha Hoon
Very often we think that our teachers scol us for nothing. But that’s not the case. Our teachers don’t get any kick out of scolding us. They do so to get us out of the stupor. To wake us up. In this scene Jeetu Bhaiya removes all the misunderstanding that a new IIT aspirant like Vaibhab has in his mind. (Notice how Jeetu Bhaiya’s tone changes from loud to soft at the end of the scene.)

That’s why they say that a mother knows everything. Vaibhav’s mom used to call him almost everyday. And Vaibhav would assure his mom that he was alright. This was like a routine. AS days passed, Vaibhav became accustomed to the environment at Kota. He began to enjoy his stay. And so one day, Vaibhav fails to answer his mother’s phone call. Instead of getting worried, his mother smiles and says that now that he is not picking up the phone, he is happy there.
Grow Karna Hai To Move On Karte Rehna Padhega
Vaibhav outgrows the Prodigy coaching institute. What he needs now is guidance from another institute – Maheswari. But the thing is, Vaibhav has grown attached to Prodigy. He has grown attached to his friends, to Jeetu sir… and to Vartika.
Jeetu bhaiya says – “Grow Karna Hai To Move On Karte Rehna Padhega.”
[Now contrast this line with the dialogue in TVF Aspirants – “Kusum was my rocket. I lost her to achieve my heights.”]

Kota Factory came out in 2019. It was a series that praised unrelenting hard work, and taught us that success is important. Then came TVF Aspirants. It taught us something that seems completely opposite. It taught us that success is not everything. Somewhere down the line, the successful characters in Aspirants weren’t that happy. The two main characters lost their love of life in their path to success… It will be interesting to see how TVF handles Kota Factory Season 2.
